Guilty Before Convicted.
- My evidence will prove I did not break the law!
- Police, EMTs, and the apartment complex never mentioned my witnesses.
- The apartment complex has retaliated against me for years of complaints against them.
- The police report is inaccurate and the damage done is fabricated!
What
happened?
Shawn Polly believed his friend Sharon might be lying injured behind a locked door. He says he acted because he feared for her life.
Their family lived at Wynnewood Arms in Wynnewood, Oklahoma. Emergency medical responders told him his friend Sharon might have hit her head and was on the floor inside her locked apartment. He says the responders welcomed his help as he asked Sandra, Sharon's neighbor and their friend, whether she had a key.
Shawn says Sandra feared Sharon might be dying and urged him to help her. He recalls responders saying their policy did not allow them to enter & laughing and joking saying the door was hard to get in after his first attempt. Believing Sharon needed immediate help, he forced the door. Once he went through it, he says the responders told him they had the wrong apartment.
Shawn says the responders never ordered him away, told him to leave the scene, or refused his help. He disputes the account in the police report that he yelled and screamed at responders or prevented them from working. He says there are cameras at the apartment complex; if they captured audio and a recording of the event was preserved, he believes it would prove he was not yelling at the EMTs as described. He says he called out at Sandra's door and then at Sharon's door, asking whether Sharon was okay.
Shawn says the EMTs knew he had two witnesses. He says police knew of at least one witness because that person corresponded with them about the incident, but police did not interview that witness. He also says the EMTs' account in the police report omitted both witnesses. He believes the report misrepresents his actions and wants the witnesses and other evidence considered.
Shawn says the apartment complex knows he has multiple witnesses but has not asked for any of their statements to date.
After learning the responders had the wrong apartment, Shawn says he checked on his elderly friend Rosie across the complex because he feared she might be the person who fell. He told EMT's Rosie had recently undergone hip surgery but it was really back surgery. Rosie answered her door and told him she was okay. By then, he says, responders had found and entered the correct apartment.
Shawn is a Christian Minister. He and his wife say they ran a food ministry at Wynnewood Arms for roughly four months. Shawn says he fed around 20 to 30 residents a day from their apartment, mainly women, children, and elderly people. He says he and his wife has served in the community for years and built close friendships with over a dozen households. That connection is why the possibility of a neighbor in danger felt deeply personal.
Shawn was arrested and charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000 and interfering with emergency medical personnel. He disputes all allegations and maintains that concern for someone's safety motivated his actions.
This is Shawn Polly's account of disputed events. The charges are not findings of criminal guilt. We believe the full circumstances deserve to be heard.
